Smart Assign allows you to easily add new jobs to existing shifts without disrupting assigned work. It allows you to choose whether to re-optimise existing routes to accommodate the new jobs, or just insert the job into the most appropriate place within a shift.
This article discusses Smart Assign for automatically assigning jobs to shifts. For more information about the various route optimisation tools within NowGo, see the Understanding route optimisation article.
How Smart Assign works
Smart Assign automates the process of assigning jobs to shifts. Smart Assign considers factors like:
Assigning jobs to shifts with appropriate routes
Assigning jobs to the best route and shift to best take advantage of vehicle capacity
Distributing tasks among drivers in the most efficient way, and preventing overloads
This feature is accessible in dispatch when jobs are selected, and you can use it to assign jobs across all shifts, or a selection of shifts. If some selected jobs are already assigned, you can leave them as they are, or choose to reassign them to a more appropriate shift. You can also insert jobs between stops in an existing route, or allow shifts to be reordered for a better result.
Use Smart Assign
Dispatchers typically let Smart Assign automatically assign new jobs to the best routes and shifts as they arise during the day.
Running Smart Assign
In the NowGo dashboard, create a new job, or select an existing job.
Click Show Smart Assign above the job to open the Smart Assign tool.
Select options for the tool:
In the Assigned jobs section, select Maintain assignment to make sure that jobs already assigned to a driver remain assigned to that driver, or select Allow reassign/unassign to allow the tool to reassign the job to a more optimal driver, if one exists.
In the All or selected shifts section, select Across suggested shifts to assign selected jobs to the most optimal shifts, select Across selected shifts to move jobs only between shifts you have selected, or select Across all shifts to move jobs across all available shifts. The more shifts that you select, the longer Smart Assign might need to run for.
Click Insert only to insert the job at the most appropriate place in a shift, without re-sequencing the other jobs in the shift. Alternatively, click Allow sequencing to insert the job at the most optimal place in a shift, which could include moving other jobs around to fit.
When the solve has completed, check the calculated routes, and make any manual changes. While you are in planning mode, no changes are sent to drivers, so feel free to experiment.
Optional: If you want to roll back your changes, click Discard changes to discard your changes and return to your previous screen.
When you are happy with the result, click Dispatch plan to send the changes live.
