Using quick assign to assign jobs to shifts

Quickly assign jobs to existing shifts and routes

Updated over a week ago

Quick assign takes just a second to suggest a recommended shift for a job. Click an unassigned job to see up to three options for quickly assigning it, without going into more complex or lengthy solver options.

This article discusses how you can quickly assign jobs to shifts. For more information about the various route optimisation tools within NowGo, see the Understanding route optimisation article.

How quick assign works

Quick assign helps to speed up the process of assigning jobs to shifts. When you select an unassigned job, quick assign suggests up to three possibilities for assigning the job with the least disruption. It details the shift, the ETA of the stops in the job at the suggested order, and the overall change in distance and time driven for the updated shift.

When you are given quick assign suggestions, the tool also provides this additional information about the suggestion assignments:

  • Stop ETA: The estimated arrival time of the stop, if you accept the suggestion. Shown as Deliver at, for example, depending on what type of stop it is. If the ETA is later than the planned time window, it is shown in red.

  • Distance: The expected additional distance the driver needs to travel, if you accept the suggestion. Shown as +10km, for example.

  • Time and lateness: The expected additional time the driver needs to complete the job, if you accept the suggestion. Shown as +30mins, for example. Additionally, if the job is expected to cause the shift to run later than planned, this figure is shown in red.

Quick Assign only considers how to insert a single job into existing runs, and doesn't re-sequence or reassign jobs. If you need to consider more complex allocation options, use smart assign instead. For more information about smart assign, see the smart assign article.

Use quick assign

Dispatchers typically use quick assign to find the best place to quickly insert a new job to an appropriate route as they arise during the day.

Using quick assign

  1. In the NowGo dashboard, create a new job, or select an existing unassigned job.

  2. If quick assign suggestions are available, they are shown in the Assignment suggestions panel to the right of the job panel.

  3. Review the suggestions, and click Quick assign to accept a suggestion. Alternatively, click Smart assign to open the smart assign panel and perform a new allocation calculation. For more information about smart assign, see the smart assign article.
